Keith Magnuson, 1973.
A long-time Lake Forest resident, Keith Magnuson was a Chicago Blackhawks captain and National Hockey League All-Star player. His professional career, spent entirely with the Blackhawks, spanned the 1969-79 seasons. He played 589 games and, as a defenseman, scored 139 points. He later coached the Hawks for two seasons.
Keith was a groundbreaking NHL draft choice by coming out of a four-year college career at the University of Denver, where he was a two-time All American on two consecutive NCAA championship teams. After hockey, he was extremely active in local Hawk alumni charity work. His life came to a tragic end in 2003 when he died at age 56 in an automobile crash. He is buried at Lake Forest Cemetery.
