Speidel House: 1215 Edgewood Road

Edward Bennett, the first owner and creator of Bagatelle
This Colonial Revival was built for Philip and Virginia Speidel in 1927. Philip Speidel was a local banker who served as president of First National Bank of Lake Forest, now The Northern Trust, from 1947 to 1962. He also served as Lake Forest city treasurer in the 1980s.
Around the turn of the century, Speidel’s father Lawrence owned a prominent oil and gasoline business in town, which stood where Market Square stands today. When construction began for Market Square in 1915, the Speidel building was moved over to Bank Lane, and is currently home to the Left Bank. The building still bears the inscription “1894, Speidel.”
