Steve Goodman: Go, Cubs, Go!
This catchy, Chicago-favorite tune, which became the Cubs victory song in its 2016 World Series season, was written by Steve Goodman, a 1970 Lake Forest College graduate. The song was one of three he wrote about his favorite team, including “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” and “When The Cubs Go Marching In.” Perhaps the most famous song he wrote was the Grammy-winning “The City of New Orleans,” performed by popular singers such as Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, John Denver, and Judy Collins. Goodman, from Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood, died of leukemia in 1984 at age 36.
