Lake Forest College alum Allan Carr (class of 1958) was a successful film and stage producer, whose hits included the Hollywood musical Grease and Broadway’s La Cage aux Folles. Grease is credited with launching the careers of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. La Cage aux Folles, made into successful movies, swept the 1984 Tony Awards.

His high-profile career included managing the careers of stars such Dyan Cannon, Tony Curtis, Joan Rivers, Peter Sellers, and Ann-Margret. Carr, born in Highland Park, died in 1999 of liver cancer at age 62. LFC theatre productions are regularly staged in the Allan Carr Theater on the South Campus.
