In 1911 Lake Bluff Village President John Howard appointed a committee to arrange the first July 4th celebration. It featured a parade from Village Hall to the lakefront park, commencing at 8:30 a.m.; a musical program; swimming and foot races; and a fireworks display.More than a century later, the Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade has become a major attraction bringing thousands of visitors to the village each year. The Parade is sponsored by the Lake Bluff 4th of July Committee with assistance from the American Legion Post 510. The Lake Bluff Fire Department hosts their Annual Firemen’s Ball the night before the parade and the Kiwanis Club of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff host their annual Pancake Breakfast in the morning. One parade entry, the Lake Bluff Lawn Mower Precision Drill Team, has made headlines over the years with their satirical and often controversial entries.
