This school was established in 1861, as the first public school in Lake Forest. The teacher was Roxanna Beecher, niece of famed abolitionist and Congregationalist preacher Henry Ward Beecher and author Harriet Beecher Stowe. The original school bell was displayed for many years in the foyer at Deer Path School.

In 1867, the building was converted into a house. Dr. Charles H. Quinlan and his family resided there when their estate at 404 E. Deerpath burned down.
Originally located at Walnut Avenue and Washington Road, the building was moved in 1897 to Westminster and still stands as a private residence.
