Plaque marking the location of the Garrison site at Westleigh and Wallace roads.
The Garrison Site is an archaeological site in Lake Forest that was excavated in 1991-1992. It is located north of Westleigh Road near Wallace Road and the Carroll Meadow Nature Preserve and was excavated when a new road was put in by developer Barry Carroll. The Garrison site yielded some of the oldest and best documented evidence of human occupation in Northeast Illinois. Archaeological evidence from the site shows that Paleo Indians were present in Lake Forest as long as 10,000 years ago, though most items found date to the Woodland Period. The site was named in honor of the late Morrow Garrison who had worked closely with Barry Carroll on various developments.
